When it comes to branding yourself being honest and genuine is key. People who try to be something they’re not rarely if ever are successful at branding themselves. First off let’s think about why it is important for you to begin branding yourself. The reason is because it allows you to begin attracting the right type of customers and or clients to your business that are drawn to your brand. They either want what you’re selling or they share in the same philosophy as you do. This allows you to carve out your own little piece of the pie in your market. Whether you are an author, professional speaker, real estate agent, health professional or even a plumber this article will help you to learn how to begin branding yourself and make it stick.

When done correctly personal branding is something that should come very naturally. It’s about you being you and branding yourself is about projecting your heart, passion and mind into everything you do. Pretending to be something you’re not does not work. But being 100% true to yourself and to others helps to radiate the right energy and allows you to become a super magnet for new business opportunities and wealth.

So let’s get you started learning how to begin branding yourself.

Step1 : Create a central message.

This should be your mantra. The one thing that you’re all about. Creating your central message is about defining the one thing that you want people to say when describing you. Let me put it this way, look at all your friends and family and pick the one person within your network who is best suited for each of the following adjectives; fun, reliable, successful and safe. Now chances are you picked 4 separate people now think about what those people do to have been granted the label you have given them. Essentially this is what it means to create your central message. My central message is that I live, breath and eat marketing and love helping others be successful through my marketing training. Whether it be in my personal or professional relationships, I want people to say “That Andrew Skelly sure loves marketing and really enjoys teaching other people how to be successful with marketing.” Therefore everything I do must exemplify that message. Your message could be that you are brutally honest, fast to get the job done, loves to travel, loves bargain hunting or that your main focus in life is about sharing the message of God. No matter what it is as long as it’s true to who you are, sharing your central message will help you to begin opening up new doors to you and attracting the right type of people into your life.

Step 2: Associate yourself with those who share your same message.

We are often judged based on  the company we keep. If you see someone who is hanging out with a bunch of athletes you assume that they’re an athlete. If you see an unrecognizable person amongst group of well known millionaires, you just assume that “hey, they must be a millionaire too.”  Ever heard of the saying; “guilty by association.”? Well you are in fact a great many things by association and therefore need to capitalize on this by seeking out those that have already successfully branded themselves with your central message. You can do this by creating a get-together, events or meet-ups for those within your central message circle.  The point is you need to reach out to others that you aspire to be just like.

Step 3: Walk the walk and talk the talk

In order for you to successful at branding yourself you can’t just talk the talk you also have to walk the walk and prove that you are the person you claim to be. Provide proof and act by example. If you cannot do this then guess what, you have not chosen the right central message. You’re central message needs to be clearly visible in every way you present yourself to your prospective customers and something that you can demonstrate on a daily bases.  Your central message should consume you and be clearly evident to everyone you become in contact with. By doing this you also have a foundation for building a unique marketing campaign that is customized to you including creating online videos, a website, flyers, advertisements and seminars.

Passion can easily translate into to dollars. Because it is something that you don’t mind pouring all your blood, sweat, tears and time into. If you’re just not a passionate person that’s ok too at least be honest about it. Sometimes it helps to ask those close to you to be brutally honest about how they would describe you. This can also be a valuable life lesson in self growth and that is also a big part to learning how to begin branding yourself the right way.

Black Hat Seo vs White Hat SEO

Let me start off by saying that I love Internet Marketing and SEO. I study this stuff everyday and I’ve gotten so good at it that I have been able to dominate some very competitive niches. In the past year I have even been able to sell my services to some high paying corporate clients.

One thing that I have always emphasized is that SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is about offering good content and building solid relationships. Just recently though I have changed my position on this. We have all heard about Black Hat SEO and the threat of being slapped or banned from Google has kept most of us from even considering Black Hat methods but the truth is most people don’t have the first clue of what Black Hat actually means. Nor do they know that most full-time internet marketers actually practice these so-called Black Hat methods with amazing results.

Good vs. Evil

So let’s start off by first defining what Black Hat SEO vs. White Hat SEO actually is and also where the term comes from. Firstly the whole black vs. white thing comes from those old western movies where the bad guys or the villains always wore black cowboy hats and the good guys, the hero’s always wore the white hat, thus black vs. white.

What are Black Hat SEO techniques?

In the beginning Black Hat SEO referred to techniques where marketers would stuff their sites with keywords and not much else. They would also use invisible text in order to pad pages with keywords that the search engines would read but the human visitor could not see. They would also use what is called “doorway pages” that only the search engine crawlers would see but the human visitor would be automatically directed to another page. But that’s old news and those tricks don’t work anymore. Nowadays Black Hat SEO techniques usually refer to the use of software which is specifically designed to trick the search engines.

How does Black Hat SEO work?

Well to explain what it does you first have to understand how a website get’s ranked in the search engines. A powerhouse like Google ranks websites based on two things, relevance and popularity. Google makes their money by attracting people and then advertising to them. So naturally they want people searching for specific keywords to find good relevant content instead of just garbage. This is where the keyword relevance comes in. As for popularity, that’s based upon what other relevant sites mentioned in the form of a backlink. Each backlink is given a value and the more relevant your links name is to the corresponding website and the content that is actually on your sites backlinked page will determine its value. You make it to the top of google by being the most relevant and the most popular for your chosen keyword. Black Hat SEO software tries to cheat this simply by spamming the internet with your backlinks in the form of articles, forum profiles and comment postings just to name a few. This is internet equivalent of graffiti.

Where I stand on this issue…

Whenever a potential client asks me if I use Black Hat SEO methods I’d always say “no, of course not” because I don’t but I know many who do and these guys swear by it.” Because the truth is that Black Hat methods such as using mass social bookmarking, distribution and article spinning software produces results. Creating a quantity of satellite micro blogs to support your “money site” is frowned upon by the search engines but they produce results. Setting up thousands of forum profiles produces results. Spamming blogs comments with your anchor text produces results.

All though all these methods are risky they produce massive results and this is exactly how many Internet Marketers have been able to reach #1 on Google for some very competitive keywords. Sure it’s cheating…but consider would you rather not take the risk and never make it to page one on Google? I believe the best traffic is Free traffic and frankly the only way you’re going to make this happen is if you either devote years to building it up the White Hat way like I did  or start to take some risk.

“But, Andrew what if Google finds out and bans my site?

Well there is always a risk however as long as you’re smart about it you won’t get caught. For example if you just set up a new blog then hire some Odesk outsourcer in India to write and distribute 2000 articles with a backlink to your site, Google is going to take notice and not in a good way. Frankly it is way to suspicious so you have to be smart about it. The Backlinks have to grow gradually in order to stay under the radar and maintain some consistency.

Also consider that this is business and as long as you are monetizing your website and business properly then if you do get shut down you just take your proven system and replicate it again and again and again so that you aren’t relying on just one source of income. Use different hosting services and accounts for your various sites.

If you’re not making a daily income from your site then you’ve got nothing to lose anyways. Google just bans your site you go set up a new one. It’s that simple!

Again let me clarify I do not use Blackhat methods myself nor am I recommending you use these types of methods but that doesn’t mean I would blame anyone else from using them if they were willing to take the risk and I think that if you were to ask those who are in the know they would say, Yes it’s worth it!

Lastly let me share some more nuggets with you, if you are serious about this Internet Marketing thing and growing your business then study it daily, hang out with other people that are into too. Whether you already have websites or you plan to here is some million dollar advice you need to follow:

1. Do keyword research and start setting up new blogs every month. (it only takes an hour to put an entire WP blog together. Watch step-by-step videos on youtube to help guide you)

2. Install and set-up a weekly backup plug-in for your site. (make sure your site is being fully backed up every week and or emailed to you)

3. If you ever hire an outsource person from odesk, freelancer, guru to do some work for you on your site. Always change the passwords on your host and blog admin after they’ve completed the work (even if they’re honest you don’t know what shared computer they’re using or if they’re email or skype get’s hacked)

4. If you haven’t already signed up on Google+ DO IT THIS WEEKEND and get your google authorship set up. (There is no better way to market yourself than by having your own picture show up in the search listings.) Plus google + is great for your own SEO if your posting your own articles and stuff.

The trend of social networks is fast becoming the focus of marketing for a lot of people. There are those we call internet celebrities or people that are simply famous on the internet even though they are not real life celebrities at all. This is because these people know how to market themselves. The key on how to market yourself in social networks is not by gaining a lot of friends or followers but by being true to yourself. If you are true to yourself, other people would want to continually open your blogs and your other social network accounts.

If you have the proper knowledge on how to market yourself, then you could just sit down and wait for your followers to increase. The most prevalent social network sites are the likes of Facebook, Tumblr, Multiply, MySpace, Blogspot and Titter. Most of the people that have an account here are teenagers, but if you are a person that has a business at home that you want to be publicized then you should know how to market yourself in these social networks.

Get to know other people that have the same line of business as yours. Be willing to swap ideas and experiences that both of you could learn from. How to market yourself tips are usually from word of mouth, so try and absorb what other people think of your site or your blog.

When some of your friends are already successful in their online businesses and they already have a lot of followers on their site, don’t be jealous or angry. Try to find conversations that you could join. Just don’t be too talkative because some people may find you a nuisance. If you want to get recognized, start a topic of your own or post good and sensible comments to blogs of people that you are following.

Do not be a wallflower. You could build a community of followers if you think out of the box and you don’t compare yourself to others. Remember that you are selling yourself and your personality. Don’t try to over impress people, you could be liked or you could be hated but assure everybody that you are your own self.
